What 10X means. On a felt hat the X rating describes the quality of the fur blend, not the weave. A 10X beaver blend is several steps above the 6X line: softer to the hand, denser, with more body, so it holds its shape for years. Straw hats use the X letter for something different, where it measures how fine and tight the weave is, so the numbers don't compare across materials.
