What 4X means. On a felt hat the X rating describes the quality of the blend. The Deadwood is built from Stetson's proprietary 4X-quality 100% wool felt — a workhorse hat that holds a clean shape at a price well below the fur felt lines. Straw hats use the X letter for something different, where it measures how fine and tight the weave is, so the numbers don't compare across materials.
This edition carries the 3540 profile: a 4¼-inch cattleman crown with a 4-inch brim. It's finished with a matching self-felt hatband and a three-piece silver-tone buckle set, a handsewn genuine leather sweatband and a full satin liner.
