The Lariat is a 5X fur felt western hat from Stetson in black, handmade in the U.S.A. This is the 4542 profile.
What 5X means. On a felt hat the X rating describes the quality of the fur blend rather than the weave. A 5X is a genuine fur felt — not wool — which is the line between a hat that holds its shape through weather and breaks in to your head and one that goes soft after a season. Straw hats use the X letter for something different, where it measures how fine and tight the weave is, so the numbers don't compare across materials.
Profile 4542: a 4½" crown with a 4¼" brim — a wider cut than the standard 4-inch brim, so it throws more shade. Genuine leather sweatband and satin liner.
Note on profiles: the Lariat is also made in the 75 profile, which has a 4 5/8" crown and a 4" brim. Same model name, different proportions — check the profile number on the label if you are matching a hat you already own.
