Resistol Cody Johnson The SP 6X Black Felt Cowboy Hat
Resistol Cody Johnson The SP 6X Black Felt Cowboy Hat
Resistol is the largest hat manufacturer in the world, and the name means what it says — built to resist all weather. This is the Cody Johnson signature hat in 6X black fur felt: a rounded brick crown at 4⅝ inches, a 4¼-inch brim, a black leather sweatband inside, and a black hatband finished with a silver three-piece buckle set.
What 6X means here. On a Resistol felt hat, the X rating describes the blend of hatters' furs. A 6X is typically 100% European rabbit fur — a genuine fur felt, not wool, which is the line that separates a real hat from a costume one. Fur felt holds its shape through weather, breaks in to your head rather than staying stiff, and lasts years rather than seasons.
Worth knowing before you compare: the X scale works differently on straw hats, where it measures how fine and tight the weave is instead of what the material is. A 20X straw is not "better" than a 6X felt — they're different materials rated on different scales, and they're for different times of year. Felt is the cold-weather hat. If you want straw for summer, see the George Strait Colt 20X.
