The Lariat is Stetson's 5X fur felt western hat in black, made in the U.S.A. This is the 75 profile: a 4 5/8" cattleman crown with a 4" brim.
What 5X means. On a felt hat the X rating describes the quality of the fur blend — the higher the number, the finer the felt and the better it holds its shape. Straw hats use the X letter for something different, where it measures how fine and tight the weave is, so the numbers don't compare across materials.
Note on profiles: the Lariat is also made in the 4542 profile, which has a 4 1/2" crown and a 4 1/4" brim. Same model name, different proportions — check the profile number on the label if you are matching a hat you already own.
