The Hooey Loper is the shoe kids ask for by name, and Dark Baja is the busiest colorway in the run — maroon, black, grey and white worked into the fabric so it doesn't look like every other pair on the playground.
What sells it to parents is the tongue. Elastic gore panels sit on either side, so once the nylon laces are set to the right length, the shoe goes on and off like a slip-on and stays that way. The upper is woven fabric rather than leather, which keeps it light and lets it breathe through a Texas school year, and the ecoTWEED lining is made from recycled plastic bottles. The EVA footbed pulls out for cleaning and is treated against odor-causing bacteria — worth knowing if these get worn every day. The molded rubber outsole is blended with rice husk left over from harvest, and a small leather Hooey patch finishes the tongue.
