What 30X means. On a felt hat the X rating describes the quality of the fur blend, not the weave. A 30X is a premium beaver-blend fur felt: it sheds light rain, breaks in to the shape of your head instead of staying stiff, and holds a crease season after season. It is a different scale entirely from the X rating on a straw hat — a 30X felt and a 20X straw are not comparable numbers.
The oval cattleman crown is accented by a self-felt hatband dyed to match the body of the hat, set off by a three-piece sterling silver buckle bearing the JBS initials of founder John B. Stetson, with gold overlay and inset stones. Inside, a satin liner and a handsewn leather sweatband.
