A summer hat works on a different principle than a felt. Straw is woven instead of felted, so air moves through the crown rather than sitting trapped against your head — which is the whole reason to own one in a Dallas July. Model J70, in natural straw.
The X number means something different on straw than it does on felt. On felt it tracks the fur content; on straw it describes how fine and tight the weave is. A 30X weave is close enough to hold a crisp crown and a clean brim edge instead of going soft after a few weeks of wear. The brim runs between 4 1/8" and 4 1/4" depending on the piece, and the leather hatband varies by lot — some come with conchos, some plain. Come by and pick the one you want.
