Wool felt is the workhorse of Western hats. It takes a crease and holds it under normal wear, and it costs a fraction of fur felt, which is why most people end up owning a wool hat for the week and a fur felt hat for Sunday. The classic cattleman crown — creased down the center with a dent on each side — is the most versatile Western profile there is and suits nearly any face shape. One honest limitation: wool is less water-resistant than the 6X rabbit and 10X beaver grades in this same line, and a hat caught in real rain can lose its shape for good. If weather is the concern, step up a grade. For everything else, this is the hat.
