Ostrich leg comes from the lower portion of the bird, where the skin naturally forms scales instead of follicle bumps — a much smaller yield per animal than body hide, which is why leg cuts show up less often on a rack and why anyone who knows exotics recognizes them immediately.

The hide carries the qualities that make ostrich prized: exceptional softness, faster break-in than cowhide, and resistance to cracking measured in decades rather than years.

How these are built. This is Tanner Mark's Black Label construction: the leather outsole is set with lemon wood pegs and brass tacks rather than glued, a steel shank runs through the arch for support, and a three-quarter double-stitched welt joins upper to sole. The shaft is lined in calfskin, the heel is stacked leather, and the insole is comfort cushioned — which means any bootmaker can resole them years from now.

Because ostrich leg is a natural hide, scale pattern and size vary from pair to pair — that variation confirms the leather is genuine.
